This month I am holding a back-to-school supply drive to help prepare local students with the necessary materials they need for their education. The effort to provide school supplies to children and families in need is organized in conjunction with parish outreach centers and not-for-profit organizations from northeastern Brookhaven Town, Riverhead and Southold. After the materials are collected, my staff and I will bring them to the outreach centers and not-for-profits, where they will then be given to families in need.
As many families are currently struggling to pay bills and put food on the table, providing their children with the supplies they need to start the school year will be one less thing for them to worry about. When children know they are heading into school prepared, it allows them to focus on their studies and become better students.
Supplies can be dropped off at my district office, located at 400 West Main Street, Suite 201, in Riverhead. The back-to-school supply drive will take place weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. now through August 31st.
