No matter what party you identify with or where you stand on the issues, most people agree that the career politicians who created the mess in Washington can’t be trusted to clean it up.
It’s like trusting the fox to watch the hen house. It just won’t work.
As someone who came from the business world and who has been fortunate enough to build two successful American companies from the ground up, I am not running for Congress to make it my career.

In fact, I have pledged to do just the opposite.
Our nation’s founding fathers didn’t intend for people to become professional politicians. Maybe if we listened to them we wouldn’t be in the pickle where we are now.

That is why I was proud to sign a public pledge to term limit myself in Congress, and promise to fight for this important reform in Washington if elected.
Unfortunately, our current system is essentially rigged to protect incumbent politicians, causing Members of Congress to grow increasingly out-of-touch and detached from the people they are supposed to represent back home.
This flawed system creates elected representatives who are afraid to make a tough vote or take a principled stand because they are afraid it will hurt their re-election chances. That approach has resulted in a government that spends far more than it collects and recklessly borrows money that our children and grandchildren will be forced to repay.
We can’t sustain this approach any longer.
As I meet people on the campaign trail, I try to leave them with a simple message:
If you want to change Congress, the only way to do it is by changing our Congressman.
Tim Bishop was elected to Congress nearly ten years ago, and it’s virtually impossible to say Long Island is better off now than it was then. Why should we continue to reward failure by re-electing Congressman Bishop every two years?
We can do better.
