I applaud Governor Andrew Cuomo for promoting several key initiatives such as disaster relief for Long Island families and a plan to improve the way power is supplied to Long Islanders in his 2013 State of the State address this week.
The past several months have been extraordinarily difficult for many Long Island families and businesses following Superstorm Sandy. We must pass a comprehensive recovery package that will provide the financial assistance and flood- and fire-damage relief for the families and job creators affected.
Superstorm Sandy also underscored something that Long Islanders have known for decades: that changes need to be made at LIPA in order to better meet the growing energy needs of our region. I look forward to working with Governor Cuomo to find a long-term solution to Long Island’s energy supply needs that will result in abundant clean, low-cost power for families and businesses.
