SHOREHAM NY — The Shoreham community is reeling from the loss of another neighbor after a tragic motorcycle crash in Greenport killed a father and father Sunday night.

But in the face of the unthinkable, friends are joining forces to help the precious family Jon Meeker, 50, left behind.

A GoFundMe page, "In Loving Memory of Jon Meeker," was created by Linda Taylor.

"Jon’s wife Kimberly, daughter Makayla, a senior at St. Joseph's College, son Jake, a freshman at Pace University, and daughter Ella, an 8th grader at Shoreham-Wading River Middle School, are heartbroken at the loss of their husband and father," Taylor wrote. "Jon worked three jobs to support his family, but the responsibility of two children in college, a daughter with a medical condition and funeral costs have overwhelmed the family financially."

Nothing was more important to Jon than his family, she added. "Any contributions will go directly to the family to address their most immediate needs during this difficult time. Thank you for your consideration and support," she said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 8:04 p.m. at the intersection of New York State Route 25 and Bailey Avenue.

Meeker was operating a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle and heading eastbound on Rt. 25, police said.

Meeker attempted to pass Jennifer Feldstein, 40, of New York, NY — who was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee — on the right as Feldstein made a right onto to Bailey Avenue, police said.

Meeker was thrown from his motorcycle and collided with a utility pole, police said.

Meeker was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Greenport Fire Department, where he succumbed to his injuries. No one in the Cherokee, including Feldstein and two passengers, was injured, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.

The Shoreham community has been devastated by loss in recent weeks: In June, hearts were forever broken when Melissa Marchese, 18, a star athlete and soon-to-graduate senior at Shoreham Wading River High School, died after a horrific crash.
