Kevin Gershowitz, the President of Gershow Recycling, recognized that need and stepped forward to help donating the moeny to support the students’ efforts.

The money will go to help the school purchase non-perishable food items and gift cards from local supermarkets for families in need from the Riverhead area.

Gershowitz was joined by members of the Riverhead Town Council and Jeanne-Marie Mazzaferro’s fourth grade class during a small ceremony to celebrate a “big check”.

“Teaching students about citizenship, community, caring and giving is an important part of our school philosophy,” Principal Rodgers said. “I am honored to be a part of this program. The staff at Phillips Avenue continues to go above and beyond for our students and community and we are so thankful for the community groups who have supported our efforts here at Phillips Avenue.”
