Gunfire In Riverhead, Man Found Shot In Crashed Car
It was the second time gunfire was reported in the area in two days; the first led to an Amber Alert, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — There were shots fired in Riverhead Friday night — the second time gunfire was reported in the area in just over 24 hours, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, at 10:11 p.m., numerous calls came in regarding a crash and a person with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Northville Turnpike and County Rd. 58.
Responding officers located a black 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup off the roadway, operated by a man who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body; he was treated at the scene and airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center via Suffolk County Police aviation for treatment of serious but not-life threatening injuries, police said.

On Thursday night, a man was shot during a domestic dispute in Flanders; that incident led to an Amber Alert for a 3-year-old girl Friday who was found safe, police said.
