Gunpoint Robbery at Route 58 Gas Station: Police
Police are asking for the public's help to catch the culprit.

RIVERHEAD, NY - A gunpoint robbery took place at a Route 58 gas station early Tuesday morning, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, a 911 call came in at 2:18 a.m. from an employee at the Mobil gas station, located at 1575 Old Country Road.
The caller said a black man had just robbed him at gunpoint and taken an unspecified amount of cash from the register, then fleed from the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

Riverhead Police and a K-9 unit officer surveyed the area but did not locate the suspect, police said; the Riverhead detective unit was notified and responded, as well.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential.

The holdup follows another gunpoint robbery in February at the OK Petro Mini Mart gas station in February. Also in February, a thief who'd stolen $900 in a Wading River gas station gunpoint holdup was nabbed, police said.
