Local Heroes Bring Christmas To Needy Families

"Every child should be able to experience the joy of a tree during the holiday season."

RIVERHEAD, NY — Christmas morning dawned bright with delight for 4 local families, thanks to the giving hearts of local heroes who worked together to make the holiday season more joyful.

The Riverhead Central School District reached out to thank members of the Riverhead Kiwanis Club and Aquebogue resident Frank Petrignani: because of their kindness, each of the families received a Christmas tree, stand, tree skirt, lights and decorations, a release from the district said.

“They truly went above and beyond for these families,” said Riverhead Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aurelia Henriquez. “Their kindness is just one shining example of how the Riverhead community always comes together for those in need.”

The project kicked off in early December when Petrignani said he wanted to do something special for families who couldn't afford a Christmas tree. He reached out to Woody Orenstein, president of the Kiwanis Club, who assisted in putting the project in motion.

“It was very gratifying to be able to provide these families with a Christmas tree,” said Petrignani. “Every child should be able to experience the joy of a tree during the holiday season.”
