Man With Handgun Arrested Near School District: Police
A man who was reported to have a handgun was arrested near Riverhead schools on Tuesday, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man with a handgun was arrested near Riverhead schools Tuesday, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, during a domestic incident investigation, police contacted the Riverhead School District to advise them of the possibility of a person in the area of Harrison Ave. with a handgun.
During the investigation, numerous police officers were in the area patrolling the schools, police said.

The suspect, Omar Wilson, 44, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with one count of second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, police said.
Police deemed that the students of the school district were not in danger, authorities said.

The school district was notified that the investigation was closed, police said.
