Man Robbed At Gunpoint In Riverhead: Police
He stole cash and a debit card before running toward Grangebel Park, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was robbed at gunpoint in Riverhead Thursday night, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the robbery took place at 8:08 p.m. on West Main Street. A Riverhead man, 32, said while he was walking west, he was pulled into an alley near a liquor store by a Black man he didn't know, who tried to grab his electric scooter, police said. He told the man that the scooter didn't work; the thief then brandished a silver handgun and demanded everything in his pockets, police said.
He handed the robber $400 in cash and a debit card; the man then ran off toward Grangebel Park, police said.

The thief is described at 6-feet tall, with an average build and wearing black clothing, white sneakers, a black surgical mask and a black beanie, police said.
A search of the area was conducted, including a Suffolk County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit, but the man was not located. Anyone with information is asked to contact Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
