Man Stabbed Near Riverhead Train Station: Police

He was stabbed after a dispute erupted over a bicycle; a large group was involved in the fight,j police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was stabbed near the Riverhead train station Friday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 7:57 p.m. on Railroad Avenue. Police responding to the call found a man, 27, of Riverhead, with an open wound to his lower left leg; it appeared that he had been cut by "some type of object," police said.

An investigation revealed that a dispute had erupted between several men over a bicycle and developed into a fight involving a large group, police said. During the course of the fight, the man was cut by an unknown person in the crowd, police said.

The injured man was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.
