Man Threatens Use of Gun in Riverhead Gas Station Robbery

The man fled in a stolen minivan early Wednesday, police say.

A man threatened to use a gun during a robbery at a Riverhead gas station early Wednesday morning, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at the Mobil station located at 1575 Old Country Road at about 5:54 a.m.

The clerk reported that a man entered the gas station and stole $200 worth of New York Lottery scratch-off tickets, according to police.

During the robbery, the man threatened the use of a gun, however no gun was displayed, police said.

The robber is described as 5-foot-10, with a dark complexion and stocky build. He was wearing a red hat, dark colored hooded sweatshirt and camouflage pants, according to police.

He fled in a dark colored minivan that was later determined to have been previously reported stolen from the Flanders area, according to police.

The van was later recovered in Flanders with no occupants inside, police said.
