Police: Drunk Riverhead Man Hits Tree and Mailbox, Tries to Escape Police
The incident occurred on Sunday morning.

A Riverhead man was arrested after driving drunk, leaving the scene of an accident and attempting to run away from police on Sunday morning, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Edwar Gomez 20, hit a tree and mailbox along Middle Road at about 5:30 a.m., according to police.
He was stopped along Middle Road by police and fled on foot to a home on Horton Avenue, where the pursuing officers caught him.

He was arrested and his 2002 Nissan was impounded by the police department.
He was removed to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing.
