Police ID Pedestrian Who Died After Being Struck In Jamesport
The man, who was rushed to the hospital after he was hit, later died, police say.
JAMESPORT, NY — Police have identified a pedestrian who died after being struck by a pickup in Jamesport last week as Jairon Canahui, 30, of Mattituck.
According to Riverhead Town police, on Monday, June 19, at 1:45 a.m., a 911 call came in about the vehicle striking the pedestrian on Sound Avenue, west of Pier Avenue. The caller, who had been driving a 2004 Ford pickup, reported that he'd hit the man at that location, police said.
Responding units provided lifesaving aid to Canahui, who was seriously injured, police said. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.

Riverhead detectives and the New York State Police were requested at the scene; an investigation revealed that the driver was traveling east on Sound Avenue when he struck a pedestrian who was in the travel portion of the roadway, police said.
The driver stayed at the scene; the incident is not considered criminal, police said.
