Police Investigating 'Suspicious' Fire Under Car Outside Home

The car was parked outside a house when a fire broke out beneath it early Sunday morning, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A fire broke out beneath a vehicle parked outside a residence in Riverhead early Sunday, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, a call came in at 3:38 a.m. about a fire on the ground under the vehicle outside the home, located on Sweezy Ave.

New York State Police and Riverhead Police arrived and extinguished the fire; due to the "suspicious nature' of the fire, the Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad were asked to investigate, police said.
