Police: Riverhead Man Arrested For Stealing ATV

The man was arrested after a low speed chase with police which ended on Doctors Path, police said.

A Riverhead man was arrested for stealing an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on Tuesday night, according to Riverhead Town Police.

While on patrol by Roanoke Avenue and Southern Parkway in Riverhead, a police officer noticed an ATV being driven on the public roadway and turned onto Southern Parkway to stop the driver, police said.

The man driving the ATV then turned around and fled from police east down Southern Parkway and a low speed pursuit ensued, police said.

The pursuit lead police down Elton Street and east onto East Main Street continuing east and across State Route 25 north onto Doctors Path, police said.

By the PSEG-LI on 117 Doctor’s Path, the ATV driver stopped and ran westbound into a wooded area north of PSEG-LI, police said.

Police K-9 and Patrol Units set a perimeter around the wooded area and found the ATV driver hiding in the woods, police said.

The driver was arrested and identified as Antonio T. Reeder Jr., 20, who was charged with multiple traffic violations, police said.

A routine DMV check of the ATV found that it had been reported stolen by the owner in September of 2014 to Suffolk County Police Department, police said.

Reeder was then charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
