Rash Of Daytime Burglaries Reported In Riverhead
The pair reportedly entered homes and stole jewelry, change, medication; at one home they said they were looking for a lost dog, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY —Riverhead Police are investigating several daytime residential burglaries reported on Wednesday.
According to police, a homeowner on Joyce Drive in Riverhead reported that someone entered an unlocked rear sliding door and removed jewelry and assorted items from within the home. A nearby residence equipped with surveillance cameras captured images of a female and a male in the area at 11:30 a.m., police said.
Next, a homeowner on Merritts Pond Road in Riverhead reported that someone forcibly entered a side door and removed jewelry, assorted change and medication from within the residence, police said. A nearby resident reported that at 1:30 p.m., a male and female knocked on the door and when confronted by the homeowner, indicated that they were looking for a lost dog; the description of the pair appears to be the same as those on Joyce Drive, police said.

A homeowner on Ackerly Street in Riverhead reported that someone entered an unlocked rear sliding door and removed jewelry and assorted items from within the home, police said.
The female was described as "being approximately 30 years old, white or light skinned Hispanic and was wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, a pullover dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, a light colored knit hat, light-colored gloves and a light-colored scarf which was covering her face," police said.

The male was described as being "in his 20s, white or light-skinned Hispanic and was wearing blue jeans, tan boots, a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a dark-colored hat, dark-colored gloves and a dark-colored scarf, which also was covering his face," police said.
Riverhead Police are asking anyone with information to contact the police department by calling 631-727-4500, ext. 633.
"The Riverhead Police Department reminds homeowners to take measures to secure their residences, communicate with neighbors and to contact police if you observe or encounter any suspicious activity," police said.
