Seniors, Veterans Can Get Supply Deliveries Free From Town

Here's a way seniors can get groceries and other essentials delivered for free as coronavirus cases continue to climb.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Senior citizens and veterans vulnerable to the new coronavirus will now be able to have groceries and others supplies delivered for free, thanks to Riverhead Town.

The Town of Riverhead created the “Senior Assistance for Essentials,” or SAFE, program and has expanded it to Riverhead veterans, a release said. Riverhead SAFE is a no-cost delivery service program developed to ensure seniors and veterans are able to obtain the essentials they need without the risk of possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus, officials said.

Seniors and veterans are encouraged to register for the no cost delivery program and can contact any of the participating local merchants to place their prepaid essential orders beginning Friday, March 27. The service runs Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
