Police and the FBI, found new evidence that led to the 14-year-old being charged with making a terroristic threat: PD

RIVERHEAD, NY — A student who made a threat of mass harm against the Riverhead Charter School earlier this month was facing an upgraded charge on Friday after an investigation led to new information, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, Riverhead Charter School officials notified them at 9:49 p.m. on January 3 about a threat against the school on social media.

Patrol Officers responded to the school; a search of the premises located nothing suspicious or criminal, police said.

An investigation led to an arrest of a 14-year-old male from Calverton, who was charged with making a threat of mass harm, police said.

The juvenile was processed at Riverhead Police headquarters and released to a parent for a future court date, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective squad, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, gleaned additional evidence resulting in the 14-year-old male being charged on Friday with making a terroristic threat, police said.

Due to the ongoing investigation, additional details will not immediately be released, police said.
