Woman ID'd Who Left Scene Of Riverhead Crash That Killed Man, 23: PD

She was released on a desk appearance ticket, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Police have identified the driver who left the scene of a Riverhead crash that left a 23-year-old Middle Island man dead recently, authorities said.

Dean Arnum was struck by a vehicle in front of the Apple Honda dealership on Route 58 at around 6 p.m. on Dec. 30, Riverhead Town police said.

Arnum was struck while crossing Old Country Road by a 2013 Ford F-150 truck driven by Jimmy Butts, 71, of Calverton, police said. He was then hit again by the driver of a white Subaru Forester who fled the scene, police said.

Butts stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

After an extensive investigation by the Riverhead police department's detective squad, with information garnered the night of the crash by the New York State Police Department's accident reconstruction team, authorities were able to identify the 2019 Subaru Forrester.

Corrilyn Rose Meyer, 28, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that caused a death, police said. She was released on a desk appearance ticket in accordance with New York State's bail laws, police said.
