College News from Dick Miller

Lacrosse

In a great display of stick wielding for the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins on the 7th against Regis, Dan Cohen (Ardsley ’08) showed the way with his 3 goals, 4 assists, 5 shots, a give back, and 4 turnovers, in the 16-8 rout of the visitors at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers.

With the record currently 2-1, he leads the team in statistics thus far. At Alvernia on the 10th, in a 5-4 overtime loss, he scored 1 goal, took 3 shots with 2 on goal, had 1 give back, and 4 turnovers, as the record is now 2-2.

Softball

With Kenyon on the 8th, Stefanie Kettenacker (H '08) had 1 hit in the 6-3 loss, while in the 2nd game, a shutout over Finlandia of Michigan, she went 0-1 and walked twice. The scene next swings to Worcester, where the regular season starts on the 16th.

Mercy Women's Lax

Two Mercy College women's lacrosse players are ranked among the top 10 nationally in Division II. Junior Julie Darnulc is tied for seventh in assists per game (2.5) and freshman Michelle Tiernan is ranked second in draw clears per game (9.0).

Mercy sophomore pitcher Mary Sieber (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) has been named the East Coast Conference’s Pitcher of the Week for week one of the 2012 softball season.
