College Roundup - 8/30-9/2

                       COLLEGE ROUNDUP -8/30 - 9/2

Rebecca Bortz of Dobbs Ferry and Chapman College had 2 shots , with one on goal, scored one goal and had one assist in the 10-0 white wash of hosts Mills College on September 31st. Her goal came at 78:14 and the assist was at 40:57 in the season opener.

Emily Braun scored the first goal at 4:37 unassisted, as the Clark University Cougars opened the 2013 season with a 4-1 win at the home field in Worcester, Ma. on August 30th.

Claire Brooks of The Masters School and a junior forward soccer player at Gordon College, scored a goal at 49:23 of a game at Wentworth College in the August 31st season opener, as the Tartans blanked the foe, 9-0. She also appeared in a game on September against Southern Maine, a 1-0 victory.

Junior field hockey player Lisa Bucci of Irvington and Salve Regina  her team achieve an 11-0 season opening win over hosts Wheelock College on August 31st, as the speedy forward had a game high of 10 shots, with 8 on goal. She scored unassisted at 41:30 and assisted on another at the 47:26 mark in  the win.

Abby Flock of Irvington/Hackley school finished 27th out of 52 runners in Johns Hopkins' opening cross country meet on August 31st, with a clocking of 24:00, as the Blue Jays finished second to Navy in the 6K event.

Emma Sweeting of Hastings and the Mt. Holyoke Lyons

volley ball team resumed her outstanding play as a sophomre in a double bill with Bay Path of Massachusetts and Lyndon State of Vermont on August 31st. With both games 3-0 shutouts, she showed the way in the first contest with a .320 attack percentage, was high with 11 kills, and had  8 service aces. With Lyndon State, she had 8 Kills, 2 service aces, 5 digs, one block solo and one block assist in the contest/

It was a tough start in the nets for Rhode Island goalie Tom

Spencer of Hastings on August 30th, as his Rams bowed to the host Seton Hall Pirates, 3-0. He had 9 shots against, with 3 goals scored and 6 saves in the season's opener. 

Sophie Sylla of Ardsley and the Binghamton Bearcats  lost a close opening soccer game at Siena on September 30th, 2-1, with the forward having 2 shots, with 1 on goal in the opener. On September 1st at Iona, she had 1 shot in the 1-0 win overtime over the Gaels.

In the opening matches of the season, Lisa Tessitore, senior

tennis player for Stevens Tech and her partner won 2 of their 3 double matches at the College of New Jersey on August 30th.

They took the first mach, 8-0, lost the second, 8-5, and captured the third, 8-3. On August 31st, in the home opener with Nazareth of Rochester, a 5-4 victory, Tessitore topped her singles opponent 6-0,6-4, and her doubles twosome prevailed, 8-0.

Devon Huddleston of Dobbs Ferry/Hackley, senior forward for the Roanoke College Maroons of Salem, Virginia , had 1 shot in the field hockey team's opening 2-0 win over Goucher on August 30th.

          

Mac Yumoto of Hastings and a senior soccer defender for N.Y.U.'s soccer team, had 1 shot on goal in the opening 3-2 over Brooklyn College on September 1st.

TARRYTOWN COLLEGE ROUNDUP - 8/31-9/2

In his debut as a Blue Devil of Duke, A..J. Wolf of Hackley and a sophomore line backer, had his first action when he had a tackling assist in the 45-0 0 slaughter of North Carolina Central at home on August 31st.
