Dobbs Ferry Man Accused Of Trying To Kill Police Officer
Prosecutors said the man tried to stab the officer in his head with a knife.
DOBBS FERRY, NY — A Dobbs Ferry man was accused of trying to kill a police officer who was directing traffic at a construction site.
Westchester District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced Friday that Matthew Burke of Dobbs Ferry was indicted by a grand jury and charged with the following felonies:
- First-degree attempted murder
- Second-degree attempted murder
- Aggravated assault upon a police officer
- Two counts of first-degree assault
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
Prosecutors said Burke stabbed the officer in the head with a knife May 20.

The officer had been assisting Con Edison with a traffic detail near 200 Beacon Hill Drive.
Burke was apprehended within a few minutes by members of the Dobbs Ferry Police Department with the help of utility and construction workers who witnessed the attack.

Rocah said her office is committed to ensuring justice for the officer and holding Burke accountable for his actions.
"This aggressive attack of a police officer is shocking and shows the danger these public servants face in the line of duty," she said.
