Irvington Girls Basketball Wins Section 1 Class B Title
Irvington Wins the Gold Ball for the 3rd year in a Row
Irvington defeated Blind Brook 68-33 to win their 3rd consecutive Section 1 Class B championship at Westchester County Center. This is the 10th sectional title for the Lady Bulldogs under Coach Gina Maher.
Blind Brook came out strong and played the defending NYS champions evenly until midway through the first quarter. At that point Irvington pulled away to end the first quarter with a 17-8 lead. Blind Brook fought back with strong play from Ali Silfen and Lea Saliba. At halftime Irvington held the lead 30-19. Irvington only outscored Blind Brook by 2 points in the second quarter.
The second half was all Irvington as they demonstrated why they are in pursuit of their third NYS title. The Lady Bulldogs put it all together and scored 38 points to Blind Brook's 14. Tenacious defense lead by Brittni Lai, who had 7 of the team's 13 steals, contributed to the Bulldogs uptempo offense. Lexi Martins, leading scorer with 21 points and 16 rebounds, was named All Tournament MVP. Lai finished with 19 points and was also a member of the All Tournament Team. Senior captain Marley Giddins has played in four finals at County Center. She has been a starter on Irvington's 3 championship teams.
