Irvington Students Participate in Robotics Surgery Program
The program is a collaboration with White Plains Hospital.
IRVINGTON, NY - Students from Irvington High School participated in a two-night robotics surgery program at White Plains Hospital from May 17-18, working alongside medical professionals.
The 12 students were provided with the opportunity through a partnership between Irvington High School and White Plains Hospital, according to information from the school district.
They met with a robotics surgeon, physician assistant and nurse on the first day of the program before working in a simulator lab on the second day.

“The goal of the program was to expose students to careers in robotics — not necessarily around medicine, but through the lens of this lab,” Principal David Cohen said. “We see this as a positive opportunity for all students.”

Students said they enjoyed working with the simulator, appreciated the opportunity to learn about the different career options in the field and understood the importance of teamwork in the operating room, district officials said.
“Everyone took home something meaningful from the experience,” junior Dillon Palmieri said. “Learning about and operating the robots certainly opened up my eyes to the potential in this field and has expanded my interest in science. The doctors and staff at the White Plains Hospital were extremely informative and answered all of our questions.”
In addition to Palmieri, the participating students were Riley Conklin, Cleo Davidowitz, Bradley Goldsmith, Deepthi Kailis, Daniel Marshall, Ainsley Mendelson, Haley Passov, Dina Pekelis, Evan Pickar, Avani Saggi and Claire Song.
