College News from Dick Miller

Baseball

In a twin bill at home with New Paltz on the 10th, Purchase lost both games, dropping the opener, 7-4. In the night cap, a 13-8 setback, Gary Riefenhauser (D.F '09) pitched two innings in relief, when he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 4, and fanned one Hawk. 

In a 11-9 loss to Gwyned-Mercy on the 7th, D.H. Andrew Pezzuto (H '08) went 1-5, scored a run, and fanned once. On the 8th, in the first game, a 12-2 win over Wittenberg, he played left field, went 1-2, and had 1 putout.

Against The College of New Jersey, he entered the game as a pinch runner, became the designated hitter, and batted 1-1, scored once, and had 1 r.b.i. With Rhode Island College on the 9th, in a 12-0 whitewashing, he went 0-2 and fanned once.

With Wheaton on the 10th, in a 4-2 win, Pezzuto batted 0-1 and was struck out once. The Red Dragons have a record of 7-4.

Lacrosse Clinic

The Mercy College women's lacrosse team put on another free clinic last night (March 14), this time with the Dobbs Ferry High School Varsity girls lacrosse team. Details can be found here.

Men's Baseball

The Mercy College baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Nyack College in Florida earlier this afternoon (March 14). Senior Tyler Savin struck out a career-high 10 batters while allowing just one hit over eight innings but the bullpen was unable to close the game out as Nyack struck for three runs in the ninth.
