Property Stolen from Unlocked Cars in Greenburgh

The town supervisor urged residents to lock their vehicles at night.

GREENBURGH, NY — A rash of car burglaries in the Town of Greenburgh has led to increased police patrols.

Supervisor Paul Feiner said more than a dozen unlocked vehicles were entered Monday night in the Joyce Road section of Hartsdale.

He said property was stolen from them, including a key that was left inside one.

“We are stepping up patrols and asking residents to help protect themselves by locking their vehicles at night,” Feiner said.

“This crime of opportunity is plaguing many communities in Westchester and we believe the Greenburgh police have previously arrested the subjects responsible for last night’s crimes,” he said.

Greenburgh officers were in the Bronx for most of Tuesday following up on the crimes.

Feiner said the Greenburgh Police Department has a neighborhood watch program whose participants can help the police look for suspicious activity.

“Let us know if you’re interested in setting up a neighborhood watch program on your street,” he said. “We can have a police officer meet with you and your neighbors at someone’s home, provide neighbors with safety tips and advise you what action steps you could take to help us keep your neighborhood very safe.”

If interested, residents should email Feiner or Police Chief Chris McNerney.
