Hoops at the county center
The best in local boys and girls basketball, from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and southern Dutchess, will be competing at the Westchester County Center in White Plains Feb. 27-March 4 in the Section 1 semifinals and finals for the right to hoist the Gold Ball.

Semifinals
On the girls side at the County Center from this neck of the woods, two-time defending state champion and top seeded Irvington will play No. 4 Kennedy Catholic at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Section 1 Class B semifinals.

In the other semifinal, No. 3 will play No. 2 Blind Brook at 6:30 p.m.

As for the boys, No. 1 Dobbs Ferry will play its Class B semifinal contest at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 against No. 5 Blind Brook.
Also in boys hoops, No. 2 Children's Village goes against No. 6 Keio today at 4:30 p.m. in the Class C semifinals.

Swimming
Wheaton College (MA.) swimmer Cara Morris (IRV. '10), competing in the NEWMAC Championships, 2/17-19, finished 12th in the Freestyle, with a time of 24.86, while her 200 Medley Relay quartet were 3rd in their race, clocked at 1:48.31. She was 11th in the 100 Butterfly, timed at 1:00.81, and her 800 Freestyle Relay foursome was 6th, with a clocking of 8:04.73. The Lyons finished 5th in the tourney, amassing a total of 240.5 points.
In the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the U. of Minnesota pool, from the 16 through the 18th, the Carleton College team finished 5th in the competition. Jesse Gourevitch (ARDS. '10) and the 200 Yard Medley Relay team finished 3rd, with a clocking of 1:34.46 .
Kathryn Ha (DF-HACKLEY '09) and the Williams College women's swim team finished 5th in the NESCAC Championship at Wesleyan on the 17th, as she was 2nd in the 200 Butterfly, with a time of 2:04.41.
At the UAA Championships in Cleveland 2/16-18, Tina Hinman (H-MASTER'S '10) of Washington U. (St. Louis) finished 10th in the 1 meter diving competition, with 313.25 points.
