Rivertowns School Boards Reorganize
Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Irvington's school boards meet to determine new leadership roles.
Over the last two weeks, Hastings and Dobbs Ferry's Boards of Education met to reorganize leadership, swear in newly elected and re-elected members and approve appointments of official roles within the districts.
Irvington's board met first on July 6, experiencing the most drama because motions were made for two different members to serve as president. Returning board member John Dawson was nominated first and ultimately elected president. But freshman board member James McCann also named Robyne Camp, whose votes came up short. Last year's president Robyn Kerner was elected unopposed as vice president. The final board member is Robert Grados, who like McCann, is serving for the first time.
In Hastings the same cast of seven women comprise the 2010-11 board, but former vice president Eileen Baecher was bumped up to president and Jodie Meyer became vice president. After a recent health incident, last year's president Gabrielle Lesser decided to step down. The other four members of Hastings' estrogen-filled school board are: Caryn Campbell, Lindsey Hicks, Donna Laing and Wendy Naidich.

Dobbs Ferry met last on Monday, July 12. Jeffrey O'Donnell was elected president unopposed and Lynne Black, who was not at the meeting, was named vice president. Michael Goldman, Jeanne Cronin Ceccolini and Sara Cashen returned to the board for the 2010-11 school year. Meg Laurer, who was absent for the meeting and sworn in a few days earlier, will serve for the first time after having been Dobbs Ferry's PTSA president.
