When was the last time you really unplugged while taking a vacation? It is really necessary to have your smart phone glued to your hip 24x7?
Smartphones, laptops, table computers and other devices make it easier than ever to stay plugged in all the time. Admittedly, the best vacation and quality family time can be achieved by locking your blackberry in your hotel room. Unplugging, even if only for a short time can really help you recharge. NO distractions just you & your thoughts to achieve a sense of peacefulness and appreciate the little things around you.

• Create rules when you can use your gadgets – this can be 1x per day or 2x per week. Set it and stick to it! It works!
• Ban gadgets during meals – it’s no fun staring at the top of someone’s forehead during a meal. If you’re out to dinner or having family time, it’s really valuable keeping them put away for that period of time.
• Give plenty of notice – if you’re going to be away and unreachable, notify your co-workers, manager, clients etc.
• Be consistent- remember, if you respond to even one work email, you change the game and the expectations and floodgates are open. If you say you’re off the grid for vacation, you need to act that way.
There’s no better feeling than coming back from vacation actually rested and ready to face the challenges that lie ahead for us. It worked for me during my recent family vacation and it can work for you as well!
