RFD continues encouraging the community to take hands-on CPR, AED training (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester Fire Department leaders are urging city residents to get hands-on CPR and AED training, stressing you don't need a certification to help save a life. With more than 113,000 Monroe County residents already trained and new programs targeting schools and community groups, they're inviting anyone in Rochester to request sessions and be ready in an emergency.
   

2. National Weather Service confirms tornado in Webster (13wham.com) — Residents around Rochester are learning that last week's severe storms included an EF-1 tornado that touched down in Webster near Salt Road before tracking into Ontario in Wayne County. With winds around 105 mph, it damaged homes, knocked out power, and uprooted trees, adding to a series of confirmed tornadoes across western and central New York.
   

3. University of Rochester football hoping to prove they can hang with the big dogs (whec.com) — University of Rochester football players and coaches say they're ready to turn last season's close losses into wins, aiming to compete with top Division III programs while staying rooted in academics. With strong senior leadership and high retention despite transfer-portal pressures, the Yellowjackets see this year as a fresh start for Rochester fans to watch.
   

4. 'So worth doing': Solar panel advocates calling Hochul to sign SUNNY Act (rochesterfirst.com) — From Rochester, advocates are urging Governor Hochul to sign the SUNNY Act, which would let New Yorkers plug small solar panels directly into outlets without complex permits. Supporters say this could help residents facing high utility bills, while utilities and the Governor's office are still reviewing how these plug-in systems fit with safety rules and existing policies.
   

5. Sam Nordquist's family honors his memory at Rochester's first ever Trans Pride Festival (13wham.com) — Rochester's first Trans Pride Festival became a poignant tribute as the family of slain transgender man Sam Nordquist traveled back to the region to honor his memory. Speaking on North Clinton Avenue, they shared their grief, awaited upcoming sentencings in Ontario County Court, and presented a new Sam's Legacy Award to a local advocate supporting Rochester's trans community.
