George Eastman Museum reopens restored Dawn's Rock Garden (rochesterfirst.com) — Dawn's Rock Garden at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester has reopened after a multi-year restoration, giving residents a refreshed historic space to explore. The project rebuilt the century-old grape arbor and added ramps and sloped sidewalks to improve accessibility, while keeping the garden's tucked-away, peaceful feel. Visitors can enjoy the garden whenever the museum is open.
   

2. Walking For Rochester launches 20x1,000 fundraiser to raise $20,000 for litter cleanup (whec.com) — A Rochester nonprofit is rallying 1,000 residents to each give $20, aiming to raise $20,000 for litter cleanup across the city. Walking For Rochester has already removed over 20,000 pounds of trash and will use this year's Oct. 22 fundraiser to expand its app-based Litter Elimination System and keep neighborhoods cleaner.
   

3. Sam Nordquist honored during Rochester pizza parade (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester volunteers with Operation Caring Hearts turned their weekly Pizza Parade into a tribute to Sam Nordquist, sharing donated food, clothing, and essentials with unhoused neighbors across the city. Nordquist's family traveled from Minnesota to join the effort, which comes just days before two people involved in his death are scheduled to be sentenced.
   

4. 'There's no downside': Local health experts urge men to consider prostate cancer screening & raise awareness (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester Regional Health oncologists are urging local men to talk with their doctors about prostate cancer screening, stressing that early detection greatly improves outcomes. They recommend most men get PSA blood tests every one to two years starting between ages 50 and 70, or earlier with family history. Residents can also access free genetic screening through RRH's GenoWell program, even if they are not current patients.
   

5. Rochester's forest project aims to transform a former parking lot into an urban forest (whec.com) — The City of Rochester is turning a former parking lot at 354 Driving Park Avenue into a dense "Miyawaki" urban forest to cool and green the neighborhood. With over 600 native trees and shrubs planned for spring 2027, officials hope this pilot will guide future green‑space investments and give nearby residents a new place to relax and connect with nature.
