Rochester real estate firm plans grand opening at new office (democratandchronicle.com) — A Rochester real estate team is inviting the public to a free grand opening and ribbon-cutting at its new University Avenue office on Oct. 1. The Sharon Quataert Team's move from Greece brings more space for client meetings, agent training, and community events, with refreshments, tours, and networking planned from 4 to 6 p.m.
   

2. Celebrate your colleagues at the Employee Recognition Ceremony (cityofrochester.gov) — City of Rochester employees and their supporters are invited to join Mayor Malik Evans on Oct. 1 for the 2026 Employee Recognition Awards at The Hochstein School on North Plymouth Avenue. The evening will honor staff receiving Meritorious Service, Public Service, Customer Service, Innovation, and Sunshine awards, with free ice cream afterward and a reminder for awardees to RSVP by Sept. 24.
   

3. Rochester teachers, RCSD hit impasse in contract talks (democratandchronicle.com) — Teachers in the Rochester City School District have declared an impasse in contract talks, saying the district is rejecting most proposals on safety, class sizes, and benefits. District leaders insist they're bargaining in good faith and welcome state mediation, leaving Rochester families and staff watching closely for how this standoff could affect classrooms and the school year ahead.

Behind the Curtain: Award-winning clown show to make New York premiere at Rochester Fringe (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester Fringe audiences can catch the award-winning interactive show "Just to Be Close to You" at the new Garden Studio venue at Gibbs and Main through Sept. 26. Performer Cam Poter's lounge-singer alter ego thrives on close audience interaction, making the intimate space ideal for locals who enjoy immersive, unpredictable theater experiences during this year's Fringe Festival.
   

5. Rochester Imagination Library sees enrollment surge after Dolly Parton's death (13wham.com) — Rochester's Imagination Library is seeing a sharp jump in sign-ups, with about 500 local children enrolling in just three weeks and 5,200 now receiving free books monthly. United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes is fundraising and recruiting volunteers to expand the program, aiming to boost early literacy and get more books into homes across the region.
