DA: Freeport Man Gets 20 Years for Stabbing Wife, Setting Fire to Hide Evidence

Man set fire to his apartment after killing his wife in 2012, the DA said.

A Freeport man will serve time behind bars for stabbing his wife and setting his apartment on fire to destroy the evidence, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Loventino Cassadean, 52, was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in April, the DA said.

At 6:02 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2012, Cassadean repeatedly stabbed Felicia Cassadean, 22, in their Craig Avenue apartment, the DA said. Cassadean then lit a fire inside the apartment to destroy the evidence, officials said.

Felicia Cassadean’s two daughters were visiting her mother in Guyana at the time, the DA said.

“Young Felicia Cassadean was subjected to the most brutal form of domestic violence,” said Acting DA Madeline Singas. “Her husband violently stole her life and robbed her children of their mother. This case should serve as a reminder that we must be vigilant in our efforts to end domestic violence and punish the abusers.”
