Uniondale Home Declared Uninhabitable After Thursday Morning Fire, NCFM Says

UNIONDALE, NY — A Uniondale home was declared uninhabitable Thursday morning after a fire at the home’s exterior extended into the first floor, fire officials said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal said the blaze broke out at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, with about 40 firefighters rushing to the scene to put it out. Upon arrival, officials said the fire had spread from the outside of the home into its first floor, while the lone occupant of the home had self-evacuated.

With mutual aid from East Meadow, Freeport, Hempstead, North Bellmore and West Hempstead departments, a 40-person firefighting body led by the Uniondale Fire Department put the fire out within about 35 minutes, officials said.

While no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, the home was declared uninhabitable and its lone resident was displaced, officials said. The fire marshal’s office and NCPD arson/bomb squad were called to investigate the cause of the fire while the local building department was called to assess the damage to the home, officials said.
