• Harmful algae blooms raise concerns at scenic Suffolk County lakes (abc7ny.com) — If you spend time around Lake Ronkonkoma, county health officials are warning you to stay out of the water and keep kids and pets away because of toxic blue‑green algae blooms. Signs are posted around the lake, and anyone who comes into contact with the scummy water should rinse off immediately and seek medical help if they feel sick.
   

• LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch service partially suspended due to downed utility poles (abc7ny.com) — If you rely on the Ronkonkoma Branch, expect major delays this evening as LIRR service is suspended between Hicksville and Farmingdale, with no trains stopping at Bethpage and only limited shuttles running between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. Officials urge Ronkonkoma riders to allow extra travel time and consider alternate branches like Babylon, Port Jefferson, or Montauk while crews address downed utility poles in Hicksville.
   

• Five Penn students named 2026–2028 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholars (upenn.edu) — Ronkonkoma resident Avi Talsania has been named a 2026–2028 Obama‑Chesky Voyager Scholar, earning major financial support, travel funding, and mentorship for his public‑service ambitions. Now studying life sciences and management at the University of Pennsylvania, he's focusing on how health policy and clinical data can improve access to care for vulnerable infants and families.
