Judge Janet Malone Candidate For NY State Supreme Court, 9th District

JUDGE JANET MALONE has declared herself a candidate for New York State Supreme Court Justice in the Ninth Judicial District – Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, and Putnam Counties - in 2013.  Judge Malone’s diverse twenty-three (23) year legal career as a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, a private practitioner, a consultant to the New York City Transit Authority, a Support Magistrate, a Westchester County Family Court, and an Acting Supreme Court Justice, makes her experienced and prepared to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Judge Malone has served the Westchester Family Court since 2003, first as a Support Magistrate and then, in 2007, as an elected Westchester Family Court Judge.  In addition to presiding over approximately 2,500 cases each year, involving child neglect and abuse, juvenile delinquency, persons in need of supervision (PINS), domestic violence, child custody and visitation, and aspects of paternity and support, Judge Malone presides over uncontested divorces assigned to her from the Matrimonial Part of the Supreme Court in Westchester.

Judge Malone holds admissions to the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Second Judicial Department of the State of New York, and has received numerous awards for her community service and professional achievements, including the Community Service Award of the Bethany African Methodist Church, the Finer Womanhood Award of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and the Business and Professional Award of the F. Willa Davis Women’s Club of New Rochelle. The Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus honored her as a Cheerleader for Social Change.

Judge Malone serves on the International Child Abduction Committee of the National Association of Women Judges, the Committee on Children and the Law of the New York State Bar Association, and the Committee on Families, Children and the Courts of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association. In 2011, Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman honored her with the invitation to testify at the Public Hearing on Civil Legal Services for low-income families and individuals.

Judge Malone is an Officer and Director of the Westchester Black Bar Association, and serves on the Advisory Boards of the Mercy College Legal Studies Program and the Lois Bronz Children’s Center. She is a member of the New York State Family Court Judges Association, the Westchester County Bar Association, the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, the Yonkers Lawyers Association and New Rochelle Bar Association, where she served on the Board of Directors from 2006 to 2008. She is a Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a long-standing member of the All Islands Association, Inc., and Sister to Sister International, Inc.  For several years, Judge Malone has participated in Her Honor mentoring program for high school senior girls established by Judge Judith Scheindlin
