Is your focus on your coffee mug or your coffee? by Amy Reissner Holistic RN
We all have Summer To Do Lists, which are important to us. This is about a revelation I had which shifted the way I look at my work and my life! Please make comments and share if this speaks to you.
I recently returned from a lovely quick get-away to Martha's Vineyard with my husband. I was so excited the night before we left and felt such a sense of freedom before embarking upon our trip, as our kids are away on their respective summer soujourns. By the same token, I have several summer projects that I want to pursue and probably unrealistically want to complete before summer's end.
While away, I found myself distracted at times with my work, and found it difficult, in the early morning hours to distance myself from my work projects and focus on my husband, and our time together.
I occasionally awakened early to work on my project and tried to get it just right. But I luckily recognized that my distraction took me away from what was right in front of me...my wonderful husband, partner, soul mate! Thank goodness, towards the middle of our 5 day stay, I found myself more focused on my husband and our trip before returning home.

I finally had one of those Ah-Ha moments after watching this wonderful You Tube video, where I recognized that my work and projects (which are major passions), are not the completion of my life. My work is not the sum total of my life! It IS one of the things that make me who I am, but my life is far greater than my work. The thing that makes my life fantastic is the realization that those who are in my life make my life worth living! While I love the process of creating, it is also crucial to be right where life happens! That is the joy of being in relationships with those you love!
What has been missing in my recent (month-long) gritty determination to get my projects completed in order to progress to the next step with my business, has been my Joie De Vie! My distraction has pulled me away from BEING with life and those I love. If I am not focused on each and every present moment then I am missing out on LIVING my life! Being present or my lack of it, was a HUGE Revelation! That has totally shifted my Energy, my Perspective, my Attitude!
