RYE, NY — Thanks to compassion and quick thinking from Rye police officers, an adorable "bandit" is on the mend after a frightening ordeal.

Over the weekend, the Rye Police Department posted that a baby raccoon was found on a sidewalk struggling to move. Officers Draper and Strebel were able to help the animal and take him to Cottontail Cottage Wildlife Rehab in Rye Brook.

"Thanks for taking the time to rescue and bring this baby to us," the rehab center said in a social media post. "We named him Chrysanthemum or Chrys for short. He’s doing great with Leslie at the Cozy Coon Cottage raccoon rehab. She has lots of other babies he can be with. He is doing well!"

In a video posted of animals rescued this week, Chrysanthemum was shown, seeming to have bounced back from his ordeal.

"Then Chrysanthemum came to us after being found on a sidewalk alone," the center said in the moving footage. "She was so happy to be fed and warmed up. We aren't their mothers but we will do the best we can to comfort them."
