Currier & Ives were America's best-known printmakers in the late 1800's. Their hand-colored lithographs could be found on the walls of most homes in America. To this day, they are considered some of the most iconic depictions of American life.
James Merritt Ives and his family lived in Rye from 1863 until his death in 1895, and were active participants in community life.
