Using the sculptures in the Beyond Rodin exhibition as a basis for inspiration, participants will create a literary piece (short story, poem) using one of the oldest forms of writing about art known in the West, ekphrasis (see below for more info.)

Ekphrasis: Ekphrastic is a form of writing, employed mostly in poetry but also in prose and essays, in which the
author writes about another work of art, usually a visual art form. It’s used to convey the deeper symbolism of the art form, an observation of what is happening in that work of art, a verbal description, a personal admiration or
interpretation. For example, Keats’ work, “Ode On A Grecian Urn,” a poem about a sculpted, ancient piece of pottery or Oscar Wilde’s novel, THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, a novel about a painting. In our session, we will use the sculptures on exhibit in the Beyond Rodin exhibit to inspire our writing.
The artistic works in the Gallery feature contemporary interpretations of the human form including nudes. Please consider previewing the exhibit prior to workshop registration.
