Latest Water Rescue Sees Police Issue Reminder About Safe Navigation

Once again, this week, Rye police responded along with the Westchester County Police Department & Mamaroneck police to a boat on the rocks.

RYE, NY — There are two kinds of bold boaters on the rocky waters of the southern Long Island Sound — those who know the waterways extremely well and those who don't know them at all. After the second pleasure craft ran aground on rocks in as many weeks, police are warning that caution is the best course to chart through sometimes treacherous waters.

Once again, this week, Rye Police Department marine units responded along with the Westchester County Police Department and Mamaroneck police to a boat on the rocks.

The large catamaran sailboat was stuck on Scotch Caps. The boat's captain was not hurt, according to officials.

"Please make sure you follow buoys and channel markers as you operate on the Long Island Sound," Rye police said in a statement posted on social media ahead of the busy holiday weekend on the water.
