Latimer Wins Democratic Primary Over Jenkins

The state senator will face Republican incumbent Robert Astorino in November for Westchester county executive.

RYE, NY — State Senator George Latimer will be the Democratic candidate facing off with incumbent Republican Robert Astorino for Westchester county executive in November. According to unofficial results, Latimer received 63 percent of the vote Tuesday, besting county Legislator Ken Jenkins who received 37 percent. The unofficial vote tally had Latimer receiving 23,673 votes to Jenkins’ 13,803.

He also thanked the voters in Westchester.

“We have a tough race ahead of us, but an important race,” Latimer said. “Westchester needs change, and our taxpayers deserve a government that tells the truth, cuts patronage and waste and puts people over political ideology.

“For eight long years, Rob Astorino has worried more about his future political career, his allies and campaign contributors while taxpayers get left holding the bill,” he said.

“Today, we start the campaign to take our county back from a politician who stands with Donald Trump and who is willing to risk our future and our children’s future for his own short-term political gain,” Latimer said.

Latimer represents Senate District 37, which includes the cities of New Rochelle, Rye, White Plains and Yonkers and the towns of Harrison, Mamaroneck, North Castle, Rye, Bedford and Eastchester.

Jenkins represents District 16 in Yonkers.
