Local Champion Irish Dancers Kick Off Fundraising Campaign
Team of young Irish dancers is raising funds to be able to compete in the 2016 World Irish Dance Championships in Scotland.
Several members of the White Plains-based O'Rourke Irish Dancers under-13 champion ceili team recently entertained the crowds at the Westchester Mall. The girls performed traditional Irish dances inside and in front of the Ivivva clothing store. The Ivivva event marked the official kick-off of the fundraising campaign to send the eight-person team to compete in the 2016 World Irish Dance Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. This highly-accomplished team of girls, ranging in ages from 9-12, has been dancing together for over three years. They are two-time Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions, 2014 North American Champions and two-time World Medal Holders. This would be the team's first opportunity to compete overseas and represent the United States. “This is the most dedicated, hard-working group of dancers I have ever had the pleasure of coaching,” stated LuAnn O'Rourke-Boyd, Founder and Director of O'Rourke Irish Dancers. “It has been an amazing experience watching them grow into young women who handle themselves so professionally on the local and international stage,” added O'Rourke-Boyd. In August, the girls set up fundraising lemonade stands in their neighborhoods across Westchester County, including Rye, Mamaroneck and White Plains. They will be staging performances and conducting several fundraising activities over the next several months to raise the funds needed to send the team to Scotland.
