Midnight Resurrection Mass Draws Hundreds to Orthodox Church

Church of Our Savior in Rye hosts Resurrection Vigil.

Hundreds of parishioners came out at midnight to celebrate a resurrection mass at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior in Rye.

The church was in near total darkness as Bishop Andonis, the Chancelor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, celebrated the mass. He lit one candle, symbolizing Christ after his resurrection, and passed the light to workshipers, effectively spreading the faith. Soon the church was bathed in the glow of hundreds of candles.

All proceeded outside to the courtyard in front of the church to celebrate the resurrection, lifting their candles in the air and using them to form the sign of the cross.
