New York Post: Rye Woman 'Flips Out Over Wait for Table'

Amy Paul, from Rye, became "irate" and caused property damage at an East Hampton restaurant.

An "irate" Rye resident caused a scene at The Palm Restaurant in East Hampton on Aug. 14, according to the New York Post.

Amy Paul, 57, arrived 25 minutes late and with four additional guests for her 9:30 p.m. reservation, and became angry when told by staff that her party would have to wait for a table to be set up, according to the Post, which obtained a copy of the police report.

According to the police report: She "became irate and ripped pages out of the reservation book and then removed her shoes (heels) and went outside and began breaking the landscape lighting with her shoes until family/party members stopped her and removed her from the property," said the Post.

Paul contacted police on Sunday to say she was planning to make restitution, the Post said.

The Post's scoop has caught the attention of  the Village Voice, the Gothamist and other internet columnists eager to find this summer's best example of folks behaving badly in the Hamptons.

In 2008, Paul and her husband, Bruce, were featured in a Westchester Magazine article about the couple's Rye home and "growing" art collection.

Asked if Paul was the Rye Neck High School math teacher with the same name, Principal Barbara Ferraro said she was aware of the incident but would not comment because it was a personnel issue.
