Person Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train in Connecticut (Updated)

Metro-North officials are alerting New Haven Line customers to expect delays due to "police activity" at the Southport station.

The person struck and killed by a train in Southport, Conn. was an elderly woman who was apparently trying to cross the tracks just before the eastbound passenger platform, according to the Connecticut Post.

Metro-North officials announced that the New Haven Line, which services southern Westchester County and shares tracks with Amtrak, was continuing to experience ”scattered residual delays of up to 30 minutes.”

NBC Connecticut reports that a person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at the Southport railroad station at 1:42 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials told NBC the train was heading from Virginia to Boston and MTA police are investigating.

Emergency crews are on the scene in Southport, Conn. after a pedestrian was struck and apparently killed by a train, the Connecticut Post reports.

Trains were stopped in both directions, according to the Post.

Metro-North officials alerted New Haven Line customers at 2:15 p.m. to expect delays of up to 30 minutes due to “police activity” in the vicinity of Southport.

Update, 2:25: Danbury Branch customers may experience delays of approximately 20 minutes due to earlier police activity in the vicinity of Southport, according to Metro-North.
