Rye Fire Department and State Farm Team Up For Fire Prevention Week
In association with the National Fire Protection Association, their campaign reminds residents that "Fire Won't Wait. Plan Your Escape."

RYE, NY — Fire is a year-round concern, but it's no accident that Fire Prevention Week is in October.
As cold weather approaches, new fire risks emerge, making the fall a perfect time to think about keeping your family safe.
The Rye Fire Department and State Farm have announced that they are teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, "Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape." This year’s campaign, which runs from October 9 to October 15, aims to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

"Today’s homes burn faster than ever," according to the NFPA. "You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning."
The Rye Fire Department and local State Farm agent Mike DiMarco are encouraging all residents to embrace the 2022 Fire Prevention Week theme. DiMarco recently donated a Fire Prevention Week kit to the fire department which includes activities and information for children and adults.

"In a fire, seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy," said DiMarco. "Fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults and the elderly are also at risk in fires, making it important for every member of the community."
Rye Fire Department shared the following safety tips:
- Plan your escape route.
- Test your smoke alarms.
- Choose an outside meeting place.
- Make a regular reminder.
- Practice home fire drills.
