Rye Small Business Spotlight: Bon Accord Massage

Our business series features local entrepreneurs. This time we feature a massage therapist.

RYE, NY — Our Small Business Spotlight shines a light on local businesses we may not know that well.

1. How did you come up with the name? Bon Accord is the motto of my hometown, Aberdeen in Scotland. It means “good fellowship” and is my way of bringing a little bit of my old home to my new home here.

2. Why start a business in this town? I started my business in my home but was looking to grow and, with so many clients and friends already in Rye, it seemed like a natural place to be. I’ve found the community in Rye to be wonderfully supportive of its small businesses and I absolutely love having my office here.

3. What business are you in? Massage Therapy

4. What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? I’m in a healing profession because I love helping to make people feel better, whether it’s by reducing their pain, increasing their flexibility, or allowing them to feel deep relaxation. I have found charging people for that service really hard, particularly when they have financial difficulties.

5. What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? There hasn’t been one moment, more a series of small moments of pride and gratitude when, every single day, I see people walk out of my door feeling so much better than they did when they walked in.

6. How does your business give back to the community? I’m honored to be part of Soul Ryeders in Rye, volunteering at the Mondays with Soul Ryeders program in Port Chester and, through the SOUL Healing program in my office, offering massage and other complementary healing services to people going through cancer treatment.
