Opinion: Support Rock Chipping Legislation.....

Unfortunately it seems that Rye Mayor Joe Sack seems to feel that it is only a small number of Rye residents who support the proposed rock chipping legislation currently before the Rye City Council. I have a feeling he may be underestimating the level of public sentiment that is weary of the rock drilling.
A 30-day limit on rock chipping projects would finally start putting some regulations on something that has gone far beyond a temporary neighborhood nuisance in recent years. I suspect that there are a lot more than a handful of people in Rye who would like to see reasonable parameters set on the rampant development that has taken over the City. This rock chipping legislation is a good start.
Two years ago the people of Rye stood up and spoke out against a behemoth construction project proposed for the Playland parking lot by the now-defunct group, “Sustainable Playland”. Citing a long list of concerns from the proximity to residential homes right thru to serious environmental concerns and what a project that large would do the community, it was stopped. Stopped by people finally being informed, paying attention and standing together to say a very loud “NO!”

If you are concerned about the building frenzy that has gripped this town, please support the local residents who have worked hard to research the rock chipping issue and come up with reasonable legislation to finally put some regulations in place on the rock drilling that has become so common place throughout Rye.
